iNove Theme Review
Setting It Up
The Setting up of the iNove theme is done in quite the same way as any other WordPress Theme. All you have to do is download the inove.zip file and extract it to the /inove/ folder. Next, simply upload the folder to the /wp-content/themes directory of an ftp client (like Filezilla). All that remains to be done now is to activate the theme through your WordPress admin panel under the Appearance or Presentation Tab.
There are a few drawbacks of the iNove theme that have to be taken into account, before one can talk about its features.
Initially, the iNove theme had a four sidebar configuration. There was a full width sidebar on the top, two half width below it along with one more full width sidebar at the bottom. In later versions of the theme, WordPress removed three of these sidebars in order to simplify the theme. Secondly, the banner feature which is under the iNove Theme Options under the Appearance Tab, is not easy to use if one does not have a good base knowledge of html, as it is quite easy to make mistakes in the header area. One cannot also change the color of the header.
Another drawback is that the Leave a Comment option is strangely located at the top of the post rather than being attached to the post. This is highly unfeasible as most users do not want to go to the trouble of scrolling all the way up to the top of the web page in order to leave a comment. If we consider the Menu bar, we cannot view both the page as well as the categories together simultaneously on the menu bar.
On a more positive note the theme does have a few features that can be quite handy. It is possible for one to hide the Sidebar from all the pages. This is quite useful a feature, if someone is making a photo blog, as one would want to maximize the image width. It has a Notice feature, which can be considered to be similar to an alert feature. One can consider this to be a stripped down version of a sticky post. It also has a text widget box by the name of ‘Showcase’. The blogger can put a piece of text, a code or an image in it and it will appear near the top of the sidebar. It is possible to control its visibility to the users. That is the blogger has the ability to control who will see it.
There is also a RSS feed link which on clicking allows the user to subscribe to the blog and also opens a window from which the user can select the feed reader program (like Feed Demon) which he or she uses.
Apart from these, it also has the usual Archives Section, Tag Cloud, Random Posts Section and the search bar. All in all, the color combination and design is simple, though the fonts used in it are not that good.
